Dream of the Fisherman's Husband III
Acrylic on canvas
70 x 100 cm
Original artwork

Dream of the Fisherman's Husband III continues a series of bright, erotic, playful paintings drawing loosely on Hokusai, Matisse's Pink Nude of 1935, and early photographic images of male bodies.
Here, the figure appears suspended in a deep blue field, caught between swimming, floating, and display. Words written across the male body make the figure feel both exposed and self-declared, as if the body is being looked at, read, labelled and desired at the same time.
The red fish-like form enters from the side with a single watchful eye, turning the scene into something part myth, part dream, part comic encounter. The painting is more saturated than the others in the series, with a rough surface and theatrical intensity that hold pleasure, vulnerability, absurdity, and queer desire together.
